Name: North Metro Pediatrics
Founded: June, 2005
Status: Nonprofit 501 (c) 3 organization
Mission: North Metro Pediatrics’ mission is to improve the health and well-being of children in the North Metro by providing affordable and accessible pediatric care focused on prevention.
Services: North Metro Pediatrics is a nurse practitioner-run, pediatric primary care clinic which serves uninsured and under-insured families as well as those families with private insurance. The clinic provides medical care for children up to age 21, with the majority of patients age 10 and under. The vast majority of patients are low-income. In fiscal year 2009, 93% of patients were at or below 275% of federal poverty guidelines. More than half of the patients served are people of color.
North Metro Pediatrics is the only sliding fee scale, community based clinic in Anoka County that provides pediatric care. The sliding fee scale is utilized by 75% of patients. We do not turn away any patient because the patient has Medical Assistance or lacks insurance.
Facts: The clinic has recently seen an increase in the number of families with no insurance, high-deductible insurance and no prescription coverage. As the economy declines and costs continue to rise, in an area with a steadily increasing population of young families such as Anoka County, the need for accessible and affordable services will only continue to increase.
Uninsured children are:
- Five times more likely to go without needed treatment;
- 30% less likely to receive care for an injury; and
- Three times as likely to go without necessary prescription medicines.
